Adding items faster

Typing in a whole house is where most inventories stall. Premium gives you three ways around it. Each one makes a draft, and nothing is saved until you've looked it over.

You need a signed-in account with Premium and an internet connection. Without Premium these options show a lock in the Add new menu. Your photo or link is processed on our servers and, when needed, by Claude through Amazon Bedrock. Here's what gets sent.

Several items from one photo

Go to Create → Items from Photo and take or pick a photo with a few things in it: a shelf, a desk, an open drawer. HomeHero looks for up to five items, draws a box around each, and drafts a card per item with a cropped thumbnail, a name and details. For a crowded shelf, photograph it in sections.

Before it starts, you can add a short hint such as camping gear or my daughter's room. If one item comes out wrong, choose Add context on its card, say what it is, and Rerun it. You get one rerun per item.

When HomeHero finds web pages that look like the same product, it lists them as sources on the card. If one is a clear match, it's already selected as the item's product URL. Tap a different source to switch, or tap the selected one again to clear it.

Tap boxes to pick which items you want, and drag a box's corners if it cut something off. Then review the selected items, fix what needs fixing, and add them all at once.

An item from a product link

Go to Create → Import from product URL and paste the address of a product page from a shop or a manufacturer. HomeHero reads the page and drafts an item with the name, description, brand, manufacturer and model, the main product image, and any specifications that fit your item type's fields. The link is saved on the item as its product URL.

Some shops block this kind of reading, and pages vary in how much they say, so what you get varies too. If a page can't be read, HomeHero tells you, and you can add the item by hand.

Fill in from a photo

When you're editing an item that already has a photo, Populate suggests tags and fills in the name, description and your item type's fields from the picture. It only fills fields that are empty, so it won't overwrite anything you typed. Pick an item type first if you want its fields filled.

Check what AI drafts

AI works from your photo or the product page, and it gets things wrong sometimes, model numbers especially. Read each draft before you save it.

HomeHero is built to leave the price, purchase date, serial number and quantity to you. A shop's listed price isn't what you paid, and a product photo doesn't show your serial number. Put those in your item type's fields yourself.

Your photos and data

The photo, any hint you add and your item type's field names go to our servers and to our AI provider (Anthropic's Claude, through Amazon Bedrock) so it can draft the item. Our servers read product pages directly and pass a page to Claude only when they can't make sense of it. Nothing you send is used to train models.

For drafts made from a photo or a product link, we keep a diagnostic record for up to 7 days. If you report a problem with a result, we keep that report for up to 90 days.

To look for matching product pages, HomeHero may send a short search query to a web search provider. The query is a few words describing the product, written from the photo and your hint. More in the privacy policy.

There's no monthly quota. A rate limit of a few requests per minute keeps the service quick for everyone.
